Next year is fast approaching, as we make the final countdown to a big 2015 for the players and the game, with the Rugby World Cup taking placing in London.
With the Wallabies season now all wrapped up, I am looking forward to seeing the team come together in 2015 with more time and opportunity under new Coach, Michael Cheika before World Rugby’s pinnacle event kicks off in September.
Ahead of the once in four year tournament, players will unite for another Super Rugby season, set to be all the more thrilling with the stakes high as players prepare in the lead up to the World Cup, while the NSW Waratahs vie for back-to-back Championship Titles.
The 2013/14 Sevens World Series is in full swing for both of our Men’s and Women’s Sevens teams now. Having both achieved top ranking results in the recent rounds in Dubai and South Africa, I look forward to seeing how their Olympic qualification process for Rio 2016 progresses as the Series continues in February next year.
It’s been a busy few weeks for RUPA, with our annual Induction Camp held last week, followed by the 2014 RUPA Awards.
The RUPA Induction Camp was a big success, with 23 rugby rookies from across the country in attendance.
I would like to pass on my sincere appreciation to the Player Development Program staff and the various presenters and attendees at the Camp. Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed attending the Camp to participate in a panel with ARU CEO, Bill Pulver following dinner on the second day. The players asked some very insightful questions about the game and their careers going forward.
We look forward to seeing their goals take shape both on and off the pitch in the coming years.
On behalf of RUPA, I would also like to congratulate all nominees and winners at our annual Awards in Sydney last Wednesday and thank all who supported and attended the event.
With so many players achieving a great deal both on and off the field, there were a number of merited nominees in line for awards this year, as voted by our Player Development Managers and the players themselves.
I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe break. For our players, it is a good opportunity to rest, refresh and spend quality time with friends and family.
I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
