Born on the 7 October in 1991, lock Adam Coleman is one of very few professional Australian rugby players born and raised in Tasmania.
A product of New Town High School in Hobart, Adam represented Tasmania in the Under 14s and 16s, before playing in the Under 18s at the National Championships and being selected in the Combined States side.
He tried his hand at rugby league for the Hobart Tigers at the age of 17 and was almost snapped up by the code with a contract thrown his way by the Brisbane Broncos, after witnessing him in action in just one match.
Deciding instead to follow his dream in Union, two years later Adam moved to Canberra to join the ACT Brumbies Academy. In 2011 he was seized upon for the Australian Rugby Union’s National Academy, which saw him move to Sydney to pursue a gig with the Parramatta Two Blues as part of the Shute Shield.
Proving that dreams of becoming a professional rugby player can come true for players growing up across the country, in 2013 Adam was called in to the NSW Waratahs squad where he made his Super Rugby debut, replacing Will Skelton in the 70th minute against his current club, the Western Force.
Adam moved West last year where he was included within the Force’s Extended Playing Squad. His starting debut for the side came about 12 months ago on 18 April 2014 against the Melbourne Rebels.
The year saw him play 14 matches for the Force, including five in the starting side.
At approximately 204cm tall, Adam has been likened to former Wallabies Captain, John Eales. His family stocks are rich too with both his father (Pau’u Afeaki) and first cousin (Ionke Afeaki) former Tongan captains. He’s also cousins with Classic Wallaby, Rodney Blake and former New Zealand All Black, Ben Afeaki.
Adam has made three appearances for the Force so far this season and has just been named amongst the side’s touring contingent to take on the Bulls and Sharks in South Africa.
Adam is currently studying a Bachelor of Business through Edith Cowan University.
